1. First wash before storing

When you're ready to store handmade carpets, be sure to wash them thoroughly. Because the carpet is generally rolled up for storage, if the carpet surface is stained, the stain will damage the carpet over time. If the entire strip cannot be cleaned in-depth, at least it must be cleaned with a vacuum cleaner before being stored away.

2. Prevent insect bites

The materials of handmade carpets are generally natural fibers. If you want to store the carpets in the basement, you must ensure that the carpets have additional protection to prevent insects. Especially when you buy wool carpets, be sure to get some insect repellent on the carpets, because wool carpets will be worms if they are not used for a long time. Insects on silk carpets are relatively rare because silk fibers are protected by sericin, but it is best to have protective measures to prevent foreign insects from damaging the carpet.

3. Roll up and store

Regardless of whether it is a mechanical carpet or a handmade carpet, try to roll it up and store it as tightly as possible. Never stack them up, because if they are stored for a long time, the carpet may have creases or cracks that are difficult to remove. Handmade rugs generally have the surface of the rug rolled inside and the back of the rug exposed.

4. wrapped in cloth

After the carpet is rolled up, it is wrapped in cotton and stored. Do not use plastic film packaging, which is not conducive to the "breathing" of natural fibers.

5. Store in a cool, dry place

Rolled handmade carpets must be stored in a cool, dry place, preferably on a flat surface that is higher than the ground, and other heavy objects should not be placed on the carpet, nor should they be exposed to the sun.
